Not Your Playground is a rhythm fighter game concept created by my lecturer for a school project.

Here we are tasked to create characters based on the universe of Not Your Playground and animate fighting state animations frame-by-frame to be implemented in the game.

Here I will elaborate on the process of designing and animating my character, Crawford, for this project.
concept art

To start off, I thought of which music genre I want to base a character off and I started sketching characters based 2 of my favourite genres, Funk (left) and Metal (right).

I thought my character based of the Metal music genre had a more striking silhouette and more explosive personality, so I settled with the Metal design.
Final Design

With my concept settled, I moved onto finalising and polishing my Metal music genre character design and Crawford was made! I made sure not to add too many accessories so that it will be 2D animator-friendly.
Animation tests

To better visualise Crawford's character, I did up a sketch of her idle animation. I wanted to give her a feral demeanor, someone who is excited to fight anyone who stands in her way. That is the Crawford I want to portray!
Final animations
Now I'm able to incorporate her personality into her special move attack animations!
Special Attack 1 - Stage Dive

Special Attack 2 - Screamo voice
